Govt funding for Kakus meant for communityfocused projects — Sikie

-

BINTULU: The government funding allocated for Kakus has been mainly utilised for upgrading roads, levelling works on new longhouse sites and also building public halls across the state constituency.

In this regard, Kakus incumbent Datuk John Sikie Tayai assured the constituents that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) would continue its development plans should it be given the mandate by the people.

He said throughout his term, he had been on the ground regularly to conduct inspection on every development project being carried out in Kakus.

“I always go to the ground and do the monitoring myself, especially when it comes to development projects for the people,” he said in a statement issued in connection with the handing-over of documents on Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects to four longhouses here last Sunday.

The RTP projects involve the road-upgrading works on Jalan Rumah Gundi in Nanga Biban and Jalan Rumah Juni Linnyan at KM5 of the Tatau-Selangau stretch; as well as the groundlevelling works on Rumah Kelambu Meringgai at Muput and also Rumah Thomas Jalai at Jalan Sangan Merit.

Sikie and his wife Datin Melia Gelen were accompanied by Public Works Department (JKR) Bintulu assistant engineer Ngu Tie Hua, Tatau District assistant administrative officer Long Jok and Pemanca Gerosen Jubin during these visits.

Separately, Sikie also advised all village security and development committees (JKKK) in Bintulu to first obtain the verification on the land status from the Land and Survey Department before building any new longhouse.

He acknowledged that this was a lengthy process, but stressed that it was important from them to verify the status of the land where the longhouse would be sited on.

“This verification process does take some time as before any project is implemented, the JKR would hold a meeting to obtain the confirmation that the land where the longhouse is going to be built is their (villagers’) land, and is not owned by other parties,” he said.
