Sarawak Skills signs MoU to enhance teachers’ skill sets

KUCHING: The signing of Memorandum of Understand­ing (MoU) between Sarawak Skills Developmen­t Centre and Samarahan District Education Office (PPD) paves the way for mutually beneficial initiative­s to enhance teachers’ skill sets through training in Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Sarawak Skills executive Hallman Sabri said that it was part of ongoing initiative­s with PPD Samarahan to enhance teachers’ knowledge, skills and competenci­es in teaching and learning.

“As a training provider for skills enhancemen­t, Sarawak Skills will provide the platform to share and exchange knowledge and expertise regarding STEM and TVET programmes,” he said at the MoU signing held in the auditorium of Sarawak Skills in Tabuan Jaya yesterday.

An education officer from the Samarahan District Education Office Sapawi Mahdi said based on research, 70.9 per cent of primary and secondary school teachers in Samarahan have not fully mastered computer skills and basic understand­ing of Arduino tool for ‘Reka Bentuk dan Teknologi’ (RBT) subject.

“With Industry Revolution 4.0 at our doorstep, various initiative­s have been implemente­d to equip teachers especially on understand­ing and use of technologi­es and gadgets,” he said.

Hallman and Sapawi signed the MoU witnessed by Sarawak Skills Management Council secretary Dato Maznah Dasmi.

Also present were Sarawak Education Department TVET Unit chief assistant director Sathi Savarana Subramania­m, State Education Department TVET Unit assistant director Zamri bin Sahaat, and Sarawak Skills’ deputy executive director of Education, Training and Student Services Zakri Md Salleh.
