Sarawak Skills signs MoU to enhance teachers’ skill sets
KUCHING: The signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak Skills Development Centre and Samarahan District Education Office (PPD) paves the way for mutually beneficial initiatives to enhance teachers’ skill sets through training in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Sarawak Skills executive Hallman Sabri said that it was part of ongoing initiatives with PPD Samarahan to enhance teachers’ knowledge, skills and competencies in teaching and learning.
“As a training provider for skills enhancement, Sarawak Skills will provide the platform to share and exchange knowledge and expertise regarding STEM and TVET programmes,” he said at the MoU signing held in the auditorium of Sarawak Skills in Tabuan Jaya yesterday.
An education officer from the Samarahan District Education Office Sapawi Mahdi said based on research, 70.9 per cent of primary and secondary school teachers in Samarahan have not fully mastered computer skills and basic understanding of Arduino tool for ‘Reka Bentuk dan Teknologi’ (RBT) subject.
“With Industry Revolution 4.0 at our doorstep, various initiatives have been implemented to equip teachers especially on understanding and use of technologies and gadgets,” he said.
Hallman and Sapawi signed the MoU witnessed by Sarawak Skills Management Council secretary Dato Maznah Dasmi.
Also present were Sarawak Education Department TVET Unit chief assistant director Sathi Savarana Subramaniam, State Education Department TVET Unit assistant director Zamri bin Sahaat, and Sarawak Skills’ deputy executive director of Education, Training and Student Services Zakri Md Salleh.
