Taekwondo activities gradually returning in Sibu

- Philip Wong

SIBU: Kenyalang Taekwondo Club (KTC) has resumed its first senior training session at its main gym at Jalan Kampong Dato here last weekend.

Its chairman Orlando Chua said the main purpose to kick start the programme is to promote taekwondo as well as to recruit new members.

“Taekwondo activities could only be conducted on and off since the last Movement Control Order (MCO) in 2020 and hopefully, the improved Covid-19 situation now can ensure better days ahead for the sport,” he added.

About 20 students from KTC returned to train at the main gym last weekend.

Chua said training is conducted by qualified and experienced instructors such as Liong King Fook, Pang Ming Sing, Kong Pang Kiong, Michael Wong and Wong Leh Kion.

“All training will be conducted according to strict standard operating procedures (SOP) under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan. “

Chua said the students who returned last weekend were excited that they could finally train with their peers instead of through online.

“Face to face training not only brings more joy, fun and excitement but it’s something the exponents are more accustomed and are really looking forward to.” Chua said the training was also part of their programme to prepare for future tournaments.

Training will be held on every weekend on Saturday from 10 to 11am and from 4.30 to 5.30pm

On Sunday, it will be from 1.30 to 2.30pm and 3 to 4pm.

“The current SOP only allows training session to be conducted for one hour only. When situation permits, we will extend the time for the training session,” Chua added.
