Sarawak always supports convention legacies, says Abang Johari

KUCHING: Sarawak has always been supportive of convention legacies, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, events advocating legacy impact are regarded as among the key strategies to help achieve Sarawak’s ‘Post-Covid Development Strategy’ (PCDS) 2030 goals.

This was highlighted by him during a virtual industry session on ‘The Rising Impact of Business Events – TRIBE’, which was held recently.

Moreover, Abang Johari said the state government had formulated PCDS 2030 to recalibrate the destinations’ development and achieve economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability as well.

“We have included business events into this strategy because that is how serious we are about events flourishing here in Sarawak.

“With the ‘BESLegacy Initiative’, we can balance people, profits, purpose, and the planet together.

“It is the strongest collaboration between the government and convention planners because of how compelling the value creation is,” he said during the session, as quoted by Business Events Sarawak in a press statement released yesterday.

Hosted by Business Events Sarawak, TRIBE introduced to the industry players and stakeholders the way the business events industry in Sarawak had forged a strong collaboration with the government sector towards achieving its goals.

The session was arranged in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak, International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), The Iceberg – Legacies of Business Events, and GainingEdge.

Best known as ‘legacy impacts’, convention legacies refer to the long-term, positive effects that conventions leave behind. Legacy impacts take place in five core areas – sectors, economy, environment, community and society, and politics.
