Award-winning ‘Flexpack’ to be distributed to all primary schools
SIBU: Sibu Education Office’s Swan Creative Innovative Group won the Macri Ureka Award with their invention ‘Flexpack’ at the Sarawak Civil Service Innovation & Convention Awards (SCSICA) Convention on Oct 14.
According to a press statement by Sibu Education Office yesterday, the Flexpack is an invention that can carry science tools easily and help in science practicals in school.
The Swan group consists of Lolita Jimmy Jalil, Sofiana Hassan and Goh Yee Chung from Sibu Education Office, SJK Thian Chin headmaster Kho Kiat Hee, SJK Guong Ming senor assistant Tang Mee Lay and Hii Ming Toh of SMK Luar Bandar Sibu.
The Macri Ureka Award was introduced in 2011 by the Malaysian Association of Creativity & Innovation (Macri) to recognise group project innovations that have a ‘Wow Factor’ as well as uniqueness and potential to be commercialised.
Flexpacks will be distributed to all primary schools in Sibu, with Nangka incumbent Dr Annuar Rapaee pledging a RM50,000 grant for its first distribution.
The Swan Group has also applied for an allocation from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research for the invention to be distributed to all primary schools in Sarawak.
It is confident that Flexpack can enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education by engaging more students through challenging, fun and meaningful Science practical activities.
Meanwhile, the winning group received the Macri Ureka Award from Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Amir Omar during the Outstanding Service Award Ceremony 2020 and Sarawak State Education Department Retirement Ceremony in Kuching on Nov 3.
