MIRI: Two longhouses here will enjoy better internet connectivity with Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) facilities soon.

When visiting the longhouses at Sungai Teniku near here yesterday, Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the installation and preparation of the VSAT facilities, which is an initiative of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under Jendela plan, started in September and would be completed by the end of January next year.

“Residents of Rh Lambor and Rh Panting in Sungai Teniku about 30 minutes from here by road, will get to enjoy the internet services very soon.

“The VSAT facility to be in operation for two years, is an interim solution for rural and remote villages that do not have network coverage,” he said, adding that 523 sites had been identified for VSAT installation throughout the state.

As a long-term solution, he said, MCMC had allocated two Jendela towers with 4G services at Rh Lambor and Rh Panting. The towers would be put up next month and would be ready by end of next year.

Lee also inspected the retaining walls at Rh Lambor which was completed in October.

The RM100,000 reinforced concrete retaining walls of 75metres long come complete with a concrete drain. Work started on Aug 15 and was completed on Oct 26.

Lee also said the two longhouses with over 700 residents would also get to enjoy piped water supply after the installation of the water main is completed in March next year.

Now, the longhouses are dependent on rain water and other sources.
