In-situ programme meant to encourage farmers in Song to undertake rubber-tree planting

-

KAPIT: An in-situ training conducted in Song near here recently served to disseminate to local farmers information about planting rubber trees as a cash crop.

Arranged by Song Agriculture Office and facilitated by Agriculture Department Sarawak’s assistant director (commercial crop) Dominic Chunggat, the twoday programme was declared open by Lidam Assam, the political secretary to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In his remarks, Lidam expressed his hope that the course would benefit the participants.

“The government encourages farmers to plant rubber trees on their idle land to generate extra incomes, and also to diversify their crops.

“To this end, the government through the Agriculture Department, has made available various schemes meant for those involved in oil palm, rubber, pepper, fruits and vegetables, as well as livestock breeding and inland fisheries sectors,” said

Lidam, who represented Nanta at the event.

It was informed that several days earlier, Lidam witnessed the handing over of farming tools and other assistance to the farmers at Song Agriculture Office’s store. The items given away included weedicide, seedlings and ploughing machines.
