-

SARATOK: Four men were arrested by police over the theft of oil palm fruit bunches at a farm along Jalan Lubok Nitik, Ulu Lun near here on Thursday.

According to Saratok District police chief DSP Mordani Tanin, two of the suspects were caught red-handed by the farm owner when he was sending two workers to the farm, while two others were arrested by the police upon returning to fetch their ‘partners in crime’ at the farm later.

The four suspects, aged 23 to 35, would be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, he said, adding that police would immediately apply for a remand order.

The theft attempt was foiled by the farm owner, who suspected something was amiss when he noticed oil palm fruit bunches stacked around his farm, which prompted him and his workers to check. After a while, they saw two strangers hiding in the bushes.

When caught and questioned, they admitted to stealing the oil palm fruits.

Fifty-one oil palm fruit bunches worth about RM1,000 were recovered at various locations across the farm.
