KUCHING: It’s the day of reckoning for Titans seeking to dethrone MH KGS Juniors in the Championship Trophy final of the OBYU-KGS Team Matchplay Championship at Matang Nines of Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) in Petra Jaya today.

The Titans, captained by John Cheu, are looking to secure their first title in 10 years but know they have a tough battle at hand.

“I am expecting that it will be a close fight because MH KGS Juniors are the defending champions and for them to bounce back from losing their opening match to us and disposing of their opponents one by one and marching to their second straight final in two years is no mean feat.

“They are made up of previous years champions Mafia Hukum and Juniors and have several Sukma shadow team and backup players in the line-up and are a tough nut to crack,” said Cheu who has yet to decide his team’s final line-up when contacted yesterday.

Rating his team’s chance as 50-50 of winning the final today, Cheu said his team will be going all out as it is a big game for them.

“As long as we keep the team work and team spirit high, I believe we can deliver the goods, and may the best team win on the day,” he added.

Meanwhile, MH KGS Juniors captain Mohamad Lokman Mustaffa said his team will not be taking Titans lightly and will be playing their normal game.

“Titans has not lost a game this year and it will not be easy to win this match because they have the handicap advantage.

“Furthermore, we will be missing one of our key players Andy Chew because he is playing in the second leg of the SportExcel golf tournament in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

“However, we will try our best to retain the title,” he added.

In the playoff for third and fourth placings of this category, Harmoni Team One will face Harmoni Team Two.

As for the Championship Shield final at the Santubong Nines, J&J5 will meet Warriors while Mix-Fit will take on Si’at Balau.
