KUCHING: The Land and Survey Department has approved 17 areas in Singai, Bau near here to undergo perimeter survey under the new Native Customary Rights (NCR) Land Measurement Initiative.

The department’s Kuching Division superintendent Alfian Bawi said out of the total areas, seven had been issued with 1,264 land title deeds covering an area of 3,500 acres – the areas are Sudoh, Atas, Tanjong Poting, Tanjong Bowang, Senibong, Daun and Bobak Sajong.

“Six more areas covering 2,360 acres are currently in the process of being surveyed – they are at Apar, Segong, Barieng, Senibong (Baki area), Baki Kawasan Atas and Tanjong Poting,” he said at the handing-over of compensations at the Redeems Singai Centre here on Saturday, where 192 land owners received payouts totalling RM9.65 million in compensation for the Kampung Tanjung Poting/Tanjung Senibong/ Tanjung Bowang road upgrading project and the proposed road at Kampung Apar Bypass, which would replace the bailey bridge across Sungai Adis.

The cheques were handed out by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Adding on, Alfian said over the past five years, the Kuching Divisional Land and Survey Office had completed 235 land acquisition projects involving 1,420 lots, with compensation of RM490 million.

This finalised project involved the development of roads, education institutions, health centres and other public amenities, he said.

“For 2021, a total of 42 land acquisition projects have been implemented, involving compensation payments of RM160.2 million.”

Meanwhile, Tasik Biru incumbent Dato Henry Harry Jinep said the handing-over of the compensations was held for the second for the two projects in Singai.

“This project is important, and if the people refused to hand over the land, the government would not be able to carry out the development. The compensations are paid whether or not there is a land title deed. It (development) is meant to help the people,” he said.
