SUPP Kuching’s young leaders call for real change in Padungan

-

KUCHING: Young leaders from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching have called on voters to ensure real change in Padungan constituency.

In a joint statement, they called on constituents to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which has a proven track record of serving the people.

“It is observed that with the Covid-19 pandemic having adversely impacted the country’s economy and also the livelihoods of many people, health issues and the revival of the economy postpandemic are now of utmost importance to everyone,” said the youth leaders.

Hence, they said it was necessary to do away with political sweet-talkers full of empty promises and to choose those who can walk the talk and bring about real change.

The leaders also called on members to unite and focus on wresting back the state constituency seat from Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the coming 12th Sarawak election. They stressed the party’s younger generation has a vital role in upholding the founding spirit of the party, maintaining unity, and working hard to serve the people in Sarawak.

The leaders also reiterated that winning back the support of the electorate in the coming state election should be the top priority at this point in time.

They pointed out that despite SUPP’s failure in securing the Padungan constituency in the last three state elections, the party’s Kuching branch had continued to tirelessly serve constituents.

In the 2016 state election, Padungan incumbent Wong King Wei polled 9,332 votes to defeat SUPP’s Peter Pau Kiu Sung who polled 5,062, and the then State Reform Party’s (STAR) Teo Kuang Kim, who received 116 votes. Wong won the seat for DAP but has since left the party.
