MIRI: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has a concrete plan to further accelerate tourism development in Sarawak, said its chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said that such a tourism development plan has already been incorporated in the state’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.
“Return the mandate to us (GPS). I have my own way on how to further accelerate the tourism development in Sarawak.
“There is already a tourism plan in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 for Sarawak including for Bekenu area,” he said in his speech when officiating at the Niah Waterfront Phase II in Sepupok, Niah.
The chief minister also said he was grateful that Sarawak was very united politically, thus political struggles happening in the peninsula would not affect Sarawak.
He said GPS will continue focusing on long-term development plans for Sarawak.
On another note, he said GPS especially Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has trained future leaders to continue the development effort for Sarawak, as leaders will come and go.
“Our fortune will be increased with the condition that I will continue to be the chief minister. I already have the future plan (for Sarawak) as the state government has a long-term policy for the state’s bright future prospects.”
Touching on the Bekenu constituency, he said local folk can continue to expect more development to be implemented in the area particularly on longterm tourism plans.
He pointed out that the longterm tourism plan for Bekenu will augur well for its economy, as it has a global attraction namely Niah National Park.
“That is why I have allocated some budget to upgrade the facilities at Niah National Park such as providing a friendly walkway of the buggy trail for tourists as well as upgrading the waterfront to revive the regatta event,” he said.
He was also happy to see that various development projects have been implemented, thus changing the landscape for development in Bekenu.
Abang Johari also promised the people in Bekenu that GPS will continue carrying out such rural development agendas to further improve the existing infrastructure and facilities and boost rural community wellbeing.
During the event, he launched the Niah Waterfront Phase II Project costing RM2 million.
