SMA: DCC to be catalyst in digitalisation drive
KUCHING: The Sarawak Digital Community Centre (DCC) aims to catalyse the local community’s socio-economy through digital inclusivity in line with the state’s aspiration towards digitalisation, said Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dr Zaidi Razak.
“There are currently 42 DCC statewide with 1,278 programmes conducted that have benefited over 46,675 beneficiaries.
“For Limbang division, a DCC has been set up for now to ease the burden of the students to perform online classes as well those who need high-speed internet,” he added.
He explained that the programmes at the centre revolve around awareness, readiness and immersion with key focus on digital skills and capacity building, socio-economic development, community empowerment as well as sustainable and resilient community.
“The DCC contributes to the state’s needs towards digital inclusivity and aligns with the Sarawak Digital Economy aspirations.
“It also contributes to the national needs by supporting the initiatives of Digital Malaysia and the global needs by aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal (SGD) objectives,” he said.
Zaidi said the DCC also provides services such as digital community platform, skills and talent development centre, community research and development, consultancy and counselling, coaching/mentoring, youth meeting centre, lifelong learning facilities, workshop/ seminar facilities, free internet connectivity and community leadership development for the community.
The intended outcomes are community resilience, job creation, social entrepreneur, coach/mentor, networking/ partnership, upskilled/ reskilled/retooled/ owned products (intellectual property) with impacts for business, development, socio- economic and quality of life.
The focus group encompasses children, women disabled, village security and safety committee (JKKK), people with disabilities (OKU), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), entrepreneurs and youths.
