DAP candidate for Senadin vows to do his best

-

MIRI: DAP candidate for Senadin seat, Marcus Hugo Matu Lejau, has vowed to do his best in the 12th state election, and use his experience as a civil servant to serve the people.

Speaking to reporters at the old Miri City Council building at Jalan Brooke yesterday after witnessing his comrade Alan Ling purchasing nomination form for the election, the former principal said the past 30 years of public service has been valuable in identifying the needs of the people.

“I know that it is a very big challenge, a very tough road ahead to contest against many corners, and the incumbent (Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin) who has served over 25 years as assemblyman for five terms.

“But I will give a good fight because I believe Senadin needs a change for a new leadership. The change is for new approach, with a fresh leader to lead Senadin,” said Marcus, adding that he will bring up different issues from time to time over the campaigning period - whether local or state issues.

Marcus retired as principal of SMK Lutong in April 2016.

One of the issues, he pointed out, is the nomination centres for three seats in Miri that are located far from each other, which he felt was very inconvenient.

The nomination centre for N75 Senadin is in Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, whilst the nomination centre for N74 Pujut is at old Miri City Council at Jalan Brooke and the nomination centre for N73 Piasau is at Sarawak Islamic Complex Miri at 101 Commercial Centre.

“In the near future, I hope Election Commission could consider setting up the nomination centres nearer to each other,” he suggested.
