DAP Sarawak makes another call on EC to facilitate sale of nomination forms online

-

MIRI: A Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak man feels that there is a need for the Election Commission (EC) to transition its method of selling the election nomination forms from the conventional face-to-face transactions to those conducted online.

In this regard, DAP Sarawak secretary Alan Ling said the online platform would be more in line with the social-distancing requirement under the new norms.

“I had told reporters weeks ago, suggesting EC to sell the forms via online.

“We are now in the Covid-19 era that encourages digitalisation. By allowing candidates to purchase the forms, they can download and print them out, before submi ing them.

“Online banking has been part and parcel of our daily lives, and even more so during the pandemic period where contactto-contact cash transactions have been reduced for health and safety purposes.

“In fact, the election nomination process has been simplified compared with those done in the olden days.

“If EC could not implement it (sales of nomination forms via online) in this state election, perhaps they should do it in the next state or general election,” he told reporters when met a er purchasing the nomination form at old Miri City Council building in Jalan Brooke here on Monday.

Ling is the DAP’s candidate for Pujut in the coming 12th state election.

Regarding area with limited or no access to the Internet, he said due to no other option, the conventional way of selling the nomination forms should be maintained.

Adding on, Ling said DAP Sarawak would complete the nomination forms and se le all the election and campaigning deposits ahead of Dec 6 nomination day to prevent any unnecessary incident.

“We are in the midst of preparing everything and we hope that everything would go smoothly leading up to that (polling) day,” he said.
