KUCHING: Lundu folk will soon have their water supply problem resolved with the implementation of 22 projects worth RM223.8 million to provide clean water.
Tanjong Datu Service Centre in a statement Monday said the water supply projects are currently in various stages of implementation by the state and federal governments, under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) as well as Projek Rakyat.
It added that these initiatives will also provide continuous water supply through the Lundu District Water Supply project and Sarawak Alternative Water Supply System (Sawas) project submission for Kampung Pugu, Kampung Sekambal Melayu, Kampung Selarat and Kampung Matang Terap.
“Among the four projects from the allocation of RTP for Tanjong Datu are Kampung Kangka Gravity Pipe Upgrade Project Year 2019 that costs RM150,000; Kampung Pandan Gravity Pipe Upgrade under RTP 2019 that also costs RM150,000; Kampung Sekambal Cina and Kampung Sebuluh Cina Gravity Pipe Upgrade under RTP in 2020 which costs RM100,000 and upgrading of water supply in Pulau Talang-Talang under RTP in 2021 that costs RM250,000.
“Meanwhile under the Projek Rakyat, the present projects include the improvement of water supply at Lundu/Bau areas, Kuching which costs RM1,828,000; improvement of Sematan’s water supply system (Phase 2) that costs RM15 million and the Groundwater Tubewell Project in Telok Melano that costs RM4.3 million.
“In addition to these, there are also three ongoing projects involving construction costs amounting to RM62.4 million including the Sawas project in Kampung Pugu, Kampung Sekambal Melayu, Kampung Selarat and Matang Terap that costs RM4.6 million which was handed over on Nov 26,” the centre said.
On Nov 26, Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi went for a working visit to Lundu District Water Supply Project and Sawas Project for a handover ceremony to Kampung Pugu, Kampung Sekambal Melayu, Kampung Selarat and Kampung Matang Terap.
During the briefing, Dr Abdul Rahman mentioned that the local folks in Tanjong Datu were very fortunate for being the direct beneficiaries of large-scale development projects which had been implemented by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government that had boosted the dynamic progress in the constituency.
Dr Abdul Rahman was accompanied by Tanjong Datu incumbent Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tanjong Datu Youth chief Azizul Adenan and officials from various government departments and agencies.
