Award-winning trio bring honour to Swinburne, S’wak
KUCHING: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus has once again made a name for itself when two of its lecturers were awarded the International Convention Scholarship Award (ICSA) at the Anak Sarawak Award Ceremony which took place in conjunction with the Business Events Tribal Assembly (TriBE) 2021 held on November 26.
The two lecturers were Dr Jee Teck Weng and Dr Choo Chung Siung.
According to Jee, the recognition has made him more determined to bring pride to Sarawak especially in the education sector.
The senior lecturer with the Faculty of Business, Arts and Design presented a paper at the 4th International Tourism and Hospitality management Congress (ITHMC 2018) in Budapest, Hungary.
Jee’s area of expertise is in advertising, branding entrepreneurship and crosscultural studies.
Choo, who is senior lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, has a special interest in three dimensional modelling of complex geotechnical problems involving soil-structure interactions. He made a presentation at the 16th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (16ARC) in Taipei, Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Lim Jim Hong, who is a civil engineering graduate of the university, won a trip to the 4th Augmented World Expo
(AWE) held in Munich, Germany in 2019.
The director at ARx Media Sdn Bhd, a full-stacked technology solution company based in Kuching, made connections with industry leaders in smart cities during the two-day event.
The university said the three ICSA recipients were awarded in recognition of their achievements and to encourage the participation of locals in international conventions.
They also showcased the benefits and opportunities from networking while a ending
these conventions.
Winners of ICSA are selected based on the quality of their submissions, the feasibility of conference rotation and programmes, and a strong display of passion and dedication to their field of work.
Recipients were presented with a certificate by Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yiew, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The award enables recipients to a end an international convention of their choice and it is valued at RM10,000 covering travel, accommodation, association membership and convention registration fees.
An initiative of the Sarawak Convention Bureau, it aims to bring prestige to Sarawak nationally and internationally in the sectors of the economy, education, facilities and recreation.
