PH will not get support of Sarawakians in coming polls — Awg Tengah

-

BINTULU: Peninsula-based opposition parties will not have a chance of gaining support from the people of Sarawak in the coming state election, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said the results of the recent Melaka election showed that these parties were rejected by “even their own people”.

“If the people in the peninsula rejected them, why would Sarawakians want to vote for them? After being rejected in the peninsula, PH (Pakatan Harapan) now aims to get support and votes from Sarawak,” he said when officiating at the presentation of land ownership titles under Section 18 and Section 13 of the Sarawak Land Code in Bintulu yesterday.

Referring to PH’s 22 months in power at the federal level, Awang Tengah said the coalition had been given the opportunity to govern by the people but failed to keep their promises.

In addition, many projects in Sarawak that had been approved earlier by Barisan Nasional (BN) were cancelled by PH, he pointed out.

He also described the decision to leave BN and form Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) following the 2018 general election as the “best decision” as it meant the state would not be caught up with politics in the peninsula.

He also emphasised on the importance of political stability which has been practised by GPS under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Without political stability, any new government will fall whenever there is a party withdrawing their support from the current government.

“Sarawakians are responsible for ensuring the state continues to be in peace and harmony as the GPS government has its own plan to transform Sarawak into a developed state by 2030 with a balanced development.

“We focus on developing the infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water, electricity and telecommunication, this is important towards our digital economy for the future,” he said.

Among those present at the event were Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) permanent chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Jepak incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Kakus incumbent Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Samalaju incumbent Dato Majang Renggi, and Land and Survey Department state deputy director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmod.
