Uggah denies having hand in deciding who gets govt projects in Bukit Saban

-

KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas yesterday expressed disappointment at the Opposition for resorting to ‘defamation and sweet promises’ in their election campaign in Betong.

The Bukit Saban incumbent in a press statement said he was puzzled and angry that an opposition candidate eyeing his constituency had blatantly defamed him and an aide during campaign visits there.

“The intending candidate is alleging that we are making profits from the implementations of both small and major projects – that we are doing these at the expense of the people and as such I should be rejected in the coming state poll.

“This is part of their effort to undermine me,” said Uggah who had earlier declared open a RM300,000 modern community pig farm project at Rumah Entinggang, Munggu Gernis, in Spaoh, Betong.

In denying allegations that he had a hand in deciding who should get the contracts in government projects, Uggah stressed that all tenders are processed by either the Resident, the District Office or the relevant government agencies.

“This opposition member, it seems, has a disdain for the truth and integrity. He is indeed desperate,” he said, adding the person in question was also making ‘big promises’ to Bukit Saban folks.

“I hope the voters here are not snared by the accusations or the promises. We have all seen those who are insincere or lack the integrity in their services to the people get rejected, like the PH (Pakatan Harapan) government and in the recent Melaka state election.”

Meanwhile, when launching an agriculture community outreach programme (AgriCOP) at the longhouse, Uggah said the government is now encouraging farmers to embrace technology based modern farming for its superior quality and quantity.

On the pig farm project, he said it was the first of its kind in the state for a longhouse community.

“Its beauty is that it is very environmentally friendly as the farm discharge is properly treated. The State Veterinary Services Department can introduce the method statewide,” he said.

Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat was among those accompanying Uggah at the function.
