Avoid land disputes to speed up issuance of NCR land titles
BINTULU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has called on the Native Customary Rights (NCR) landowners to avoid land dispute among them as it would delay the process of issuing the land title deeds by the Land and Survey Department.
“We have received many applications for NCR land and we have also processed and approved the applications.
“But when a surveyor goes down to the field to measure there is also a dispute which causes the surveyor to not be able to measure until the dispute is resolved,” he said.
He was speaking at the handing-over of land ownership titles under Section 18 and Section 13 of the Sarawak Land Code to the landowners in Bintulu yesterday.
He said the main reason why the measurement of NCR land failed was not because of the state government policies and legislation but because of disputes over the land.
Awang Tengah, who is also International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister, hoped the genuine NCR land claimants can cooperate with the Land and Survey Department in jointly resolving disputes on the land so that the perimeter survey can be implemented successfully.
Earlier, he presented land title deeds to the landowners from Sungai Annaou, Tatau; Sungai Kelawit, Tatau; Sungai SelitutSeparai, Tatau; and Kuala Tatau, Tatau under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code in a gazetted area under Section 6 of the same Code.
The land title deeds were also presented to the recipients under Section 13 of the Sarawak Land Code in the ex-settlement area at Jalan Bintulu-Miri for agricultural purposes.
For the record, under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code, a total of 1,011,566 hectares or 2.49 million acres of NCR land had been surveyed, while 780,203 hectares or 1.93 million acres had been gazetted in Sarawak to date.
Among those present at the event were Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) permanent chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Jepak incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Kakus incumbent Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Samalaju incumbent Dato Majang Renggi, Land and Survey Department state deputy director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmod, Land and Survey Department Bintulu superintendent Mohammad Zunica Mohamad Sapi’ee, and Bintulu Resident Datu Jack Aman Luat.
