Covid: 121 new cases in S’wak, four deaths from Nov 24-30

KUCHING: Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases yesterday rose slightly to 121 after reporting below 100 new infections over the previous two days, with 118 of them in Categories 1 and 2.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update on the pandemic, there was one case in Category 3 (patient with pneumonia but not requiring oxygen support) and two in Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen support).

SDMC also said there were only 15 districts which reported new cases yesterday, of which the top four were Kuching (47), Sibu (19), Miri (13), and Bintulu (11).

The other cases were reported in Serian (9), Limbang (4), Samarahan (3), Lawas (3), Lundu (3), Simunjan (3), Subis (2), and one each in Bau, Betong, Mukah, and Telang Usan.

The state’s cumulative number of cases now stands at 250,841.

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s death toll from Covid-19 increased to 1,590 following the addition of four more fatalities between Nov 24 and 30.

SDMC said the deaths were recorded in Sibu (2), Miri (1) and Kuching (1) and that the victims, aged between 54 and 90, were all male.

Three of them had comorbidit­ies ranging from hypertensi­on, diabetes, dyslipidae­mia, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructiv­e pulmonary disease, and heart disease, while the medical history of the victim from Kuching was unknown.

The death in Miri was a brought-in-dead (BID) case involving a 54-year-old whose body was brought to Miri Hospital.

Meanwhile, SDMC also announced the end of two Covid-19 clusters after no new cases were detected from these clusters in the past 28 days.

They are the Putai 2 Cluster in Bukit Mabong and the Ensurai Cluster in Limbang.

The committee said there were no new Covid-19 clusters detected in Sarawak yesterday, while the last two remaining active clusters – Jalan Sultan Tengah Rampangi Cluster and the Jalan Ong Tiang Swee Cluster, both in Kuching – also did not report any new cases.
