MCC’s S-MM2H task force to engage with pass holders soon
MIRI: The Miri City Council’s (MCC) Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home Programme (S-MM2H) Task Force will commence engagement with existing programme pass holders here.
Mayor Adam Yii said the task force would also assist those who are residing in Miri and eyeing to apply for the programme.
“Applicants can either submit the application themselves, or through a licensed S-MM2H agent.
“There is only one registered S-MM2H agent in Miri. This is a great business opportunity for those who meet the requirement set by the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture,” he said in a statement a er chairing an online MCC’s S-MM2H Task Force meeting yesterday.
During the meeting, Yii said he wanted to make Miri into a preferred destination for S-MM2H programme to assist the MCC to revive the Miri City economic recovery post Covid-19 pandemic.
To achieve the objective, he said the MCC would start the preparatory works such as tidying up the city, identifying suitable housing projects, engaging with banks, improving amenities and facilities, and beautifying local tourist a ractions.
“Miri has all that is required to be one of the most liveable cities in Southeast Asia, especially for applicants who dislike the busy lifestyle of metropolitans like Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo.
“They can apply for the SMM2H programme and invest in residential property in Miri to make this their getaway home where they can enjoy life.”
He said when the applicants entered Miri, they were required to purchase a house, open a bank account, place a fixed deposit, purchase medical insurance for themselves and their dependants, followed by other expenses such as cars, leisure, dining, and daily necessities.
All these would contribute to the local economy in the long run.
“As mayor, my primary focus is to revive the economy and give hope to the people that Miri will bounce back stronger than before.
“The Covid-19 has no doubt affected many of us, but Miri will not be defeated. Together we build a be er Miri.”
The S-MM2H Programme is open to citizens of all countries that have diplomatic relations with Malaysia (except Israel), which is in line with federal government’s policy on foreign diplomatic relations.
In the recent amendment to the programme, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture had announced a new category of 40-50 years-old, who are eligible to apply with investment in real properties specifically for residential purpose of at least RM600,000 for Kuching Division and RM500,000 for other divisions in Sarawak.
Applicants also need to deposit a refundable security or personal bond in the form of fixed deposit of RM150,000 for individuals and RM300,000 for couples.
Applicants’ parents and children below 21 years old and not married are allowed to accompany the applicants.
The S-MM2H pass holders need to stay a minimum of 15 days per year in Sarawak to qualify them for a renewal of S-MM2H pass a er 5 years.
