KUChing: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Pending candidate Tan Kay Hok will give himself three years to implement the major plans he has proposed for the urban constituency, if he’s elected on Dec 18. “Within three years, I will materalise my plans. I think three years is enough. Of course, my plan for Bintawa may require more time to materialise but I believe the people can understand that it takes time.
“I have planning and time frame for my plans, and I will do it step by step. So give me a chance to fulfil my plans for you (Pending constituents). In the fifth year, people can enjoy new facilities,” he said in an interview with The Borneo Post on Thursday.
Tan said he has laid out major development plans to revive Kenyalang Park, Bintawa and Sungai Apong.
Among them is a new attraction in Bintawa called ‘Bintawa Cove’ which would be teeming with fresh seafood stalls and seafood restaurants.
“If I’m elected, I will set a time frame of about six months to gather inputs from the locals on my plans. I hope to get engagement from the locals because they may have even better suggestions.
“It will take about six months to finalise my proposal which suits the needs of the locals. After that, I will need another six months to engage a professional team comprising engineers and architects to work on my proposal,” he said.
“The professionals will need to study the environmental impact and land use issues. We will have to liaise with the authorities as well.”
The 50-year-old Tan, who is making his election debut, said he will proceed with implementation once all documents and drawings are ready.
“Together, we can make it happen, we can bring about change to Pending,” he said.
He believes a lot of people want to see change and that supporting PSB to become the next state government will enable change to happen.
“Every seat counts and matters in PSB forming the next government. PSB has proposed a lot of people-centric policies as announced in its manifesto. We always puts our people first, everyone, regardless of race,” he said.
Tan is in a five-cornered fight with incumbent Violet Yong from Democratic Action Party, Milton Foo from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Teo Kuang Kim from Parti Bumi Kenyalang, and Chan Chee Hiong from Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party
Yong has been holding the seat since 2006.
PSB is contesting in 70 seats in this election.
