The fashion industry’s latest exceptional design

-

THE latest batch of fashion designers from ESMOD Kuala Lumpur are ready to spread their wings and soar into the fashion industry.

Introducing the graduates of batch F1809 who have designed a collection that is sure to impress.

Themed Mu, their pieces refer to the artistic interpretation of space in traditional Japanese art and culture.

Each of their designs focus on the negative space as well as the piece itself, allowing for a wholesome work of art.

Despite having a common theme, each graduate has put their own spin on their collection ensuring no two pieces are alike.

Their graduation exhibition took place at Level 2, Shoppes at the Four Seasons KL and attracted quite a crowd of onlookers over the duration of their showcase.

As per tradition, each designer’s work was judged by a team of renowned industry experts who then critiqued and gave them feedback.

This allows the designers to get a taste of working in the real world under the tutelage of these fashion gurus.

This time around, the judging panel consists of Carven Ong, Joe Chia and Justin Yap who carefully examined and deliberated the young talents’ designs.

Bagging the ESMOD KL’s coveted ‘Best Pattern Making’ award is Tee Kai Tong.

Her collection ‘Foolish Adult’ is simply marvellous with its intricate design and exceptional needlework representing a conversation between a child and a world full of adults.

Speaking on some challenges she faced in her journey, one of it was finding her own personality and style to be translated into designs.

She overcame this obstacle by reaching out to her lecturers and friends for guidance whenever she was stuck in a creative rut and advises other creatives to do the same.

This year, the ‘Best Fashion Design’ award was won by none other than Shawn Wong.

Inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic, Shawn’s work tells the story of an adventure in outer space with underlying themes of aggression, depression and anxiety.

His advice to the upcoming generation of creatives is to believe in what you design, no matter what people say. “Persist, even if anyone tells you otherwise”, says the graduate.

Kudos to all the other participating graduates – Lee Yu Heng, Lim Yan Xuan, See Jia Wen, Suraya Yasmin Abdul Jabba and Tan Pei Li.

Each and every one of their pieces was truly captivating, proving that the fashion industry has gained invaluable additions.

Throughout their course of study, they have equipped themselves with design and pattern making skills that is taught in tandem with studio courses consisting of Fashion Designing, Pattern Drafting, Merchandising & Marketing, Colour Application Techniques, and the French Language contextual course.

This combination of disciplines is what gives ESMOD’s methodology its added value and its graduate’s unparalleled expertise in technicality and creativity.

As one of the leading fashion design institutions in the country under the umbrella of the world’s first and oldest fashion school in the world with 180 years of history, ESMOD Kuala Lumpur pledges to provide the best education programme and continues to nurture its students passionately through the worldclass intensive course of ESMOD Fashion Design & Pattern Making.
