Association gives PPE to 57 schools

-

KUCHING: The Association of Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to 57 schools under its care as schools reopen tomorrow (Jan 10).

Its president Jonathan Chai said the PPE included disinfectant, hand sanitiser and face masks mostly donated by the public.

“Fifty-five out of the 57 schools have requested PPE from the association.

“We are not able to fulfill all their requests but try to provide the basic within our means,” he told reporters after the handover of PPE at the association’s premises here yesterday.

Chai hoped that the schools would take necessary precautions to ensure zero infection and urged parents and pupils to comply strictly with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations set by the authorities and schools.

“As schools reopen Monday, we need parents and pupils to co-operate with teachers and adhere with the SOPs set to keep schools safe for all,” he stated.

He added that many parents realised the importance of physical classes after months of virtual lessons during the pandemic.

According to Chai, though many of the schools under the association have completed the syllabi for 2021 school year, they would still follow the directive of Ministry of Education (MoE) to continue with lessons from the last school term.

“We will give tutorial lessons to weak pupils and intensive or enhancement lessons to those who have done relatively well. I

believe every school has its own arrangement,” he added.

He said schools with more

than 300 pupils in total will stick to MoE’s directive to divide Primary Three, Four and

Five classes into morning and afternoon sessions to maintain physical distancing and avoid crowding.

Chai called for understanding and co-operation from parents.
