Iconic temple project to be completed in July
MIRI: Miri Tua Pek Kong Temple extension and beautification project which commenced in July 2020 is scheduled for completion this July.
Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin who inspected the site yesterday said once completed, it will be another iconic place of interest in the resort city.
“A two-storey building will house a meeting room, administration office as well as a heritage museum, historical walkway of the 107-year-old temple and a 7-metre tall statue of the temple’s patron deity Tua Pek Kong (God of Prosperity),” said the Senadin assemblyman.
The RM8-million project under the temple management committee is currently about 55 per cent completed. Its chairman Tay Choon Wei told the media that challenges in getting materials from China on time had caused some delay.
“There is shortage of containers from year-end up to Chinese New Year which also cause logistic fees to increase. We hope to complete the project within the time frame,” said Tay.
Accompanying Lee were Assistant Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) cum Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Mayor of Miri cum Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii and chairman of Miri Chinese Charitable Trust Board Temenggong Yong Vui Seng.
