BINTULU: Smart Taekwondo Club (WTF) chairman Raja Zahari Raja Yusof has commended coaches, trainees and their parents for their tenacity, commitment and dedication during the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020.

He said the pandemic did not weaken or discourage them from continuing to practise and engage in various taekwondo activities online.

“There were several SOPs that we had to comply with during that period to prevent the infection and further spread of the virus,” he noted and acknowledged that it was a really challenging time for everyone to adapt and to survive under the new norm.

Taekwondo clubs had to close their gyms with no face-to-face physical training allowed for a certain period during the MCO, he recalled.

“But the club had to find other alternatives to ensure taekwondo activities can be continued in accordance with the new norm via online training and, from this method, our trainees can still participate in the activities,” he remarked during the club’s excellence appreciation 2020/2021 ceremony recently.

During that period club members were able to take part in the courses, seminars and tournaments held at the national and international levels via online sessions.

Zahari was proud that the club was able to sustain its excellent tradition in developing potential athletes who went on to shine in national and international competitions.

“Our club has produced many great athletes that represent Bintulu, Sarawak and Malaysia in various events.

“This excellent achievement is contributed by the strong commitment of the athletes, support and blessing from parents,” he said.

The club also recognised the support it received from many parties including the Sarawak Education Department, Malaysian Taekwondo, Sarawak Taekwondo Association, Bintulu Education Office, Youth and Sports Ministry, Sarawak Sports Council, school management and local media fraternity.

Various excellent awards and recognitions were presented during the ceremony which was officiated by Deputy Bintulu Education officer (Planning Sector) Fred Entau.
