Tzu Chi-run recycling centres to temporaril­y close for CNY

MIRI: Three recycling centres operated by Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Miri Liaison will be temporaril­y closed for the Chinese New Year festival.

The Taman Tunku recycling centre will be closed from Jan 19 and will resume operation on Feb 8.

The Lutong Baru recycling centre will be closed from Jan 21 and will resume its operation on Feb 7, while the Piasau recycling centre will be closed from Jan 22 and will resume on Feb 8.

Despite the temporary closure, the collection services which are scheduled on the fourth Sunday of every month will be running as usual.

For January and February, the collection services fall on Jan 23 and Feb 27.

Members of the public who wish to bring recyclable items to these centres are urged to do so before the closure of the centres, as there will be no volunteers to segregate and clean up the donated used items during the closure period.

“We hope to get the cooperatio­n from Miri folks to keep the centres clean during the closure period, to prevent unnecessar­y issues relating to hygiene and the .

“As for those who wish to donate recyclable used items, they are encouraged to clean the items first and to segregate them accordingl­y.

“Items that are unrecyclab­le should be disposed of, and not to be sent to the recycling centre,” read the statement.

The foundation also encourages the public to send recyclable items such as used aluminium cans, plastic bo les, and paper boxes to the centres a er they resume operation a er Chinese New Year in order to prevent congestion at the centres and to ease the volunteers’ workload.
