Luno and Monstax Guild crown Malaysia’s first Axie Infinity tournament champion

KUCHING: Luno, a regulated digital asset exchange in Malaysia and Monstax Guild, a blockchain gaming community platform have announced Wiliam Wong as the winner of the inaugural Luno Battlexie: Winter Cup 2021.

Taking home the grand prize of RM13,000 in Bitcoin, Wong beat seven other finalists to win the blockchain gaming tournament featuring the popular nonfungibl­e token (NFT) game, Axie Infinity.

Luno Battlexie: Winter Cup 2021 featured close to 300 Axie players from all over Malaysia battling it out in an intense preliminar­y round of matches, which took place on December 18 and 19, 2021.

The top eight players advanced to the grand finals on December 26, 2021 where Wong battled valiantly to emerge as the deserved champion.

The first and second runnersup are Loh Vern Sern and Low Kah Seng where each won RM6,000 and RM3,000 in Bitcoin respective­ly.

The grand finals were streamed live on the Esports Players League (ESPL) tournament platform.

“I am honoured to be crowned the first winner of the biggest Axie Infinity tournament in Malaysia,” Wong said.

“Luno Battlexie: Winter Cup 2021 is a great platform that allows Axie Infinity players to showcase our skills and progress as profession­al esports players.

“I am grateful for a competitiv­e tournament that nurtures the developmen­t of Axie Infinity players in Malaysia and hope more tournament­s will be organised in the future.”

Luno Malaysia country manager Aaron Tang said that the encouragin­g response for Luno Battlexie: Winter Cup 2021 highlighte­d the growing popularity of NFT games like Axie Infinity among Malaysian gamers and showcased their interest in earning cryptocurr­ency at the same time.

“Together with Monstax Guild, Luno aims to be at the forefront of advocating Malaysia’s growing blockchain gaming community and provide them with the tools to start their cryptocurr­ency journey,” Tang added.

“We believe in the potential of play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain games and its role in creating a new competitiv­e esports ecosystem.”

Monstax Guild co-founder Shas Fung shared that Luno Battlexie: Winter Cup 2021 has illuminate­d an incredible foundation for their competitiv­e esports scene.

“This tournament will continue to bring out the best in the blockchain gaming community,” Fung said.

“We strive to organise future tournament­s that support the growth of the local blockchain gaming community.

“With the rise of blockchain gaming, Monstax Guild aims to establish a fair community platform that empowers players with the opportunit­y to experience this new era of gaming.”

Meanwhile, ESPL’s Tournament­s head Jeffrey Patrick said that as the official broadcast partner for the tournament and a leading esports tournament platform, they aim to provide immersive mobile experience­s to amateur gaming communitie­s globally and bridge the gap between esports and new technologi­es such as blockchain gaming.

“The positive reception of the Luno Battlexie tournament is a testament to the growing interest from esports gamers for blockchain-games tournament,” Patrick added.
