Call on motorists to be patient with traffic congestion at Mile 7 flyover works site

-

KUCHING: Motorists travelling through Jalan Kuching-Serian are called to be patient with the ongoing construction of the Mile 7 flyover, which is due for completion in April this year.

In making this appeal, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang acknowledged that the works on the flyover had cause heavy traffic congestion along the road.

“We have discussed this with Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU), Public Works Department (JKR) and the contractor involved in an effort to solve the traffic jam issue in the area. We will continue to push the contractor to complete the construction as soon as possible,” Lo, also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, told reporters after inspecting of the situation at Mile 7 traffic light junction here yesterday.

He noted that the congestion could also be attributed to more people now going out as Sarawak had entered Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Moreover, the situation was aggravated by the opening of schools yesterday, he observed.

“To improve traffic flow, we have adjusted the traffic light timing from Kuching heading to Serian, and vice versa. From 6am to 9am, the timing of green lights from Kuching to Serian has been increased to 140 seconds before they turn red.

“From 5pm to 7.30pm, (the timing for) the green lights for the Serian to Kuching route has also been increased to 120 seconds. We are also controlling the timing of traffic lights for motorists from Jalan Haji Baki heading to Kota Sentosa and vice-versa, since it is a four-way junction,” he added.
