-

SIBU: Forty-five families under the B40 group here will benefit from ‘Together We Care’ charity event organised by University of Technology Sarawak’s (UTS) food technology programme under its School of Engineering and Technology (SET).

According to the event director Mohammad Hafsanjani Salleh, the event was a collaboration between SET and School of Business and Management.

He said the objectives were to relieve the burden of B40 families affected by Covid-19 pandemic and to raise awareness and inspire UTS staff to be involved in charity-based programmes.

“The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as well as rising prices of goods have economically affected many families and the contribution will at least relieve some of their burden,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Hafsanjani said this was the second time they organised the event. The first one involved the distribution of food packs to 10 families.

This time, the contributions consist food packs worth RM100 each and used items including clothes, bags and shoes from UTS staff themselves, he said, adding that initially they targeted to contribute to 30 recipients but due to overwhelming response from UTS staff, they raised the number of recipients to 45.

“We will start distributing the food packs to the recipients in phases until April 4.

“The recipients come from different backgrounds and we obtained their names from Tabung Baitumal Sarawak, Sarawak Dayak National Union and religious bodies,” he said.

The event co-director Mohd Kamarul Anwar Mohd Suhaimi was also present at the press conference.
