Fazzrudin happy Ramadan bazaars are back

KUCHING: After two years of absence of the Ramadan Bazaar, chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman is glad to see what was once an empty site at Emart Matang has become a bustling and lively place where food and drinks are sold in conjunction with Ramadan.

“All of this is possible because the Health Ministry and State Disaster Management Committee have allowed Ramadan bazaars to open this year as we slowly transition to life before the pandemic,” said Fazzrudin.

Although this year’s edition of Ramadaan Bazaar at the Emart Matang only allows 22 vendors to operate, Fazzruddin is pleased to see local and small-time vendors given the opportunity to open their stalls to earn extra income.

However, he advised parents to avoid bringing their children to Ramadan bazaars to protect them from being exposed to Covid-19.

“Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazli had said despite the country entering the endemic phase, it is not advisable to bring children to crowded areas, especially those unvaccinated,” he told reporters during the official opening of the Ramadan Bazaar at Emart in Matang.

Although Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had announced that the country was now transitioning to the endemic phase of Covid-19, Fazzruddin reminded the community not to be too complacent and remember to adhere to the Covid-19 health protocols.

“The community must continue to heed the guidelines set, such as practising social distancing and wearing of mask,” he said.

Fazzruddin, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth deputy chief and Tupong assemblyman, was accompanied by Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.
