Hope Place provides relief, comfort to a family of five

-

KUCHING: Hope Place recently came to the aid of a 41-year-old sole breadwinner of a family of five, Sakdah Madihi who works as a part-time cleaner at Mile 10 commercial premises whose husband was diagnosed with severe lung infection.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) has also found out that Sakdah not only collects recycled items to sell but also le over food from the eateries, to bring home and feed her family.

If time permits, she collects wild vegetables nearby and if she finds used clothing in the rubbish bins, she will also bring them home for her children.

Sakdah’s husband who used to work as a security guard early this year has been diagnosed with severe lung infection, asthma and other illnesses. He was admi ed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in February this year, and is now recovering at home.

With an ailing husband, Sakdah is le to cope with everything on her own. Meanwhile, her children aged between five to twelve years old have not been in school since 2020 as the family did not have the means to pay for the expenses for their online classes and for school fees when school reopens.

Hope Place is giving the family of five who stay at a small rented room above a coffee shop some food supplies and also used clothing for the children on a regular basis.
