Pekat wins RM38.3 million EPCC contract to build solar photovoltaic farm in Perak

KUALA LUMPUR: Pekat Group Bhd has secured an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract from Sun Estates Sdn Bhd to develop a large-scale solar photovoltaic farm worth RM38.3 million in Perak.

In a statement yesterday, the solar photovoltaic, earthing and lightning specialist said its wholly-owned subsidiary, Pekat Solar Sdn Bhd (PSSB), had accepted the letter of award from Sun Estates for its appointment as the turnkey EPCC contractor for the project.

Sun Estates, which is involved in power generation, also inked a two-year contract with PSSB for the maintenance of the solar PV farm, which is expected to be commissioned in December 2023.

“The 10-megawatt alternating current (MWac) solar photovoltaic farm, located in Batang Padang, Perak, was part of a competitive bidding conducted by the Energy Commission in 2021,” it said.

Pekat executive director Wee Chek Aik said this latest contract had enabled the company to replenish its solar EPCC order book to RM209.0 million following the completion of its RM33.1 million EPCC contract for Proton’s 12-MW-peak solar (MWp) photovoltaic farm at its Tanjung Malim plant in Perak six months ahead of schedule. That project covered a land area of 9.45 hectares.

“Pekat’s expertise is becoming increasingly relevant at a time when more organisations are becoming carbon-conscious and are seeking to adopt clean, renewable energy.

“Notwithstanding the cost challenges arising from the global supply chain disruptions, we are optimistic of our growth prospects in the renewable energy space moving forward,” he said. — Bernama
