Curtin Malaysia continuing roadshow for S’wak students
MIRI: The Domestic Student Recruitment Department of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is continuing its roadshow to introduce education and scholarship opportunities for Sarawakian students.
An online session held last week for staff of District Education Offices (PPD), principals, teachers, counsellors and representatives from Parent-Teacher Associations in Lawas, Limbang, Sibuti and Subis received encouraging response.
According to its press release, the roadshow is being held in response to the call from the Sarawak state government to encourage Sarawakian students, especially SPM, STPM and Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) leavers to pursue tertiary education in state owned institutions of higher learning like Curtin Malaysia.
Pro vice-chancellor, president and chief executive officer of Curtin Malaysia, Professor Simon Leunig hoped participants would share the information provided by the university during the session with parents and students of their respective schools.
Participants were briefed on programmes at Curtin Malaysia from foundation studies to undergraduate courses in business, engineering, science and humanities as well as financial assistance available including Yayasan Sarawak BP40 bursary scheme of subsidised tuition fees for Sarawakian Bumiputeras.
Leunig said other Sarawakians enrolled in foundation or degree programmes may apply for full study loans from Yayasan Sarawak.
“For loan repayment, students only have to repay 25 per cent of the loan amount, subject to academic performance being maintained at Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 and above,” he disclosed.
Such information sessions will be held for schools in Bintulu and surrounding districts in the near future to ensure that Sarawakian students, especially SPM 2021 leavers and current fifth formers get comprehensive information on study options at Curtin Malaysia.
