Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu back after 2 years

KUCHING: Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu beauty pageant is back this year after a twoyear absence, says its organising chairman John Pata James Jumin.

He said the beauty pageant will be the main event for the seventh Gawai Tematu Carnival at Kampung Tematu, a Bidayuh village near Kuching.

“Following the announceme­nt of Malaysia transition­ing to the endemic phase, we decided to hold the seventh edition of this carnival and beauty pageant this year.

“The theme is ‘Adat Bidoyoh Puun Idip Bimadis’ which means Bidayuh tradition as the core of the community.

“Other activities will include exhibition­s by government and non-government agencies, sale of agricultur­al products, food and others,” he said.

On the beauty pageant, it is open to single Bidayuh girls aged 18 to 28 with minimum height of 157cm from around Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Padawan, Siburan, Penrissen and Serian.

Non-refundable entry fee is RM100 each and the closing date is May 8.

The top three winners will take home cash prize of RM1,500, RM1,300 and RM1,000 respective­ly. All participan­ts will get a crown, bouquet, sash, trophy, hamper and certificat­e of participat­ion.

Consolatio­n prizes of RM100 cash, hamper and certificat­e of participat­ion will be given.

“Miss Talent, Miss Tourism, Miss Popularity, Miss Photogenic, Miss Best Costume and Miss Traditiona­l will each receive RM200, a trophy and a sash,” he added.

He welcomed everyone to Kampung Tematu for the carnival and beauty pageant to be held in strict compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
