Entries for Miri Gawai beauty contests now open

MIRI: Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebratio­n 2022 Committee is calling single Dayak as well as Orang Ulu women aged 18 to 25 and men aged 18 to 30 years to take part in its Kumang, Dayung Sangon, Keligit and Keling/ Belawan contests on May 21.

In the effort to go green, the contest organising chairlady Helen Sunta said this year’s participat­ion forms are available via Google link.

Those eligible and interested are requested to obtain the link by contacting Helen Sunta at 019-8553484 for the Kumang Iban category; Caroline Siburat (012-8518938) for Dayung Sangon category; Lorreta Herbert Madang (019-8360333) for Keligit Orang Ulu category and Cr Romulus Charles Agan (0128713484) for the Keling Belawan category.

Closing date for submission of entry is May 6.

Prizes to be won for the contests this year include cash from the organiser, scholarshi­p sponsored by Fajar Internatio­nal College, trophies, sash and hampers sponsored by Nestle.

The semi-final round of the Kumang, Dayung Sangon, Keligit and Keling/Belawan contests will be held at Bintang Mega Mall on May 15 at 2pm.

Only six finalists from each of the categories will be selected for the final round of the contests which will take place during the Miri Division Gawai Dayak Dinner Celebratio­n at Meritz Hotel Grand Ballroom on May 21.

This year’s Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebratio­n is hosted by the Dayak Associatio­n Miri (DAM) in collaborat­ion with the Resident’s and District Office as well as eleven other Dayakbased associatio­ns in Miri.

Its organising chairman, Wilfred Mac, said the committee will also hold a Dayak Karaoke Contest on May 8 and 14 in conjunctio­n with the dinner. Those interested to take part in this contest can contact Dominica Tinggang at 019-8841949.

There will also be a blood donation drive organised by the committee at Malaysia Red Crescent and interested donors can contact Mathew Dominic Madai at 013-8377297.

Also to be held prior to the dinner is the Miri Division Gawai Education Award presentati­on at Bintang Megamall.

Dinner tickets priced at RM90 per person or RM720 per table (eight-seater) as well as RM70 per person or RM560 per table (eight-seater) are now on sale. They can be purchased through the organising treasurer Caroline Siburat (012-8518938) and Kitty Janggot at Dayak Associatio­n Miri Office (085435467).
