Lessons were learnt from the last state election where the opposition could have won many seats had they not fought each other.

SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) met yesterday to discuss on seats allocation between them for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh told The Borneo Post the decision to avoid clashing in seats was made in order not to split the votes which would ultimately benefit Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), as shown in the last state polls.
“Lessons were learnt from the last state election where the opposition could have won many seats had they not fought each other,” he said.
Meanwhile, PSB and PBK in a joint statement indicated that they will enter into a written Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to avoid clashing claims for seats in GE15.
“Today’s sit-down is to deliberate on seats that each party will contest in for GE15.
“The parties will enter into a written MoU soon to avoid a clashing of seats contested so that Sarawak’s chances of being locally represented at the Malaysian Parliament is maximised,” the joint statement said.
It added that local-based parties like PSB and PBK must be represented in the Malaysian Parliament so as to bring a direct voice from Sarawak to the Malaysian Parliament and to report back to Sarawakians on the decisions of the Malaysian Parliament.
The meeting was attended by Wong, PSB Sibu parliamentary election committee secretary Wong Hie Ping, PBK secretarygeneral Priscilla Lau and PSB Miri parliamentary election committee head Datuk Lawrence Lai.
Lai is a former Miri mayor, and also tasked to lead PSB northern region.
