Go for health check-ups at least once a year, public advised

-

KUCHING: Everyone should go for regular health screenings, at least once a year, so as to enable them to identify any sign of the diseases and take the appropriate action to prevent them from becoming more serious.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang gave this advice in his speech prior to officiating at a health talk, which took place at the Arang Road basketball court here yesterday.

“I hope the residents here could gain knowledge and greater awareness of the dangers posed by many chronic health problems such as hypertension, diabetes and having high cholesterol level,” he said.

Lo, also the chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), said qualified medical doctors were invited to conduct the session yesterday.

“They are here to help guide the people in living a healthier lifestyle and keeping chronic diseases at bay, particularly amongst the senior citizens.”

In a separate matter, Lo hailed the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, as ‘being visionary’ in fighting for Sarawak’s rights and interests.

“Our leaders know that we cannot take on a confrontational approach in dealing with the federal government, and it would be best if we could return to the negotiating table (in reclaiming our rights).”

Lo said Abang Johari had been resourceful in sourcing for more funds meant for state development, with foreign investments coming to Sarawak and enabling the setting up of methanol and hydrogen production plants.

According to him, the stateowned utilities corporation Sarawak Energy Bhd is now exporting technology and knowledge to Indonesia so as to assist the neighbouring country in building more power-generating dams in Kalimantan.

Indonesia is set to relocate its capital from Jakarta on Java Island, to Kalimantan where the new capital would be named ‘Nusantara’.
