MIRI: Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS) will continue to provide education assistance to deserving students to pursue their tertiary education either at public or private institutions of higher learning (IPTs).
TBS general manager Datu Abang Mohamad Shibli Abang Mohamad Nailie said the key objective was to ease the financial burden of families and to defray the registration fees.
“We have received more than 95 per cent of applications for such education aid.
“TBS has its own formula in determining the eligibility of applicants for such assistance,” he told the media when met at TBS Miri Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Miri Islamic Complex multipurpose hall yesterday.
Nonetheless, Abang Mohamad Shibli welcomed applications from students, particularly those from poor families or those facing financial constraints, for such education assistance.
“The application can be made online where the students just need to submit their offer letters from the IPTs, plus other relevant supporting documents.
“TBS always gives high priority to such education aid application because to us, education is the right way to bring them out from the cycle of poverty.”
On tithe collection, he said TBS had already distributed some RM15 million to the recipients, including for education assistance. He added that TBS would frequently go to the ground to channel various forms of assistance, particularly to those badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic throughout last two years. On behalf of TBS, he thanked non-governmental organisations and individuals who had helped TBS in ensuring that all the assistance would reach the needy recipients.
Touching on the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri, he said the open house event was a gesture of appreciation to the title payers as well as recipients in Miri. More than 500 guests attended the open house, from 10am until noon.
Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Miri Malay community leader Temenggong Dato Abdul Rahman Abang Fadzail and heads of various government departments were among the invited guests.
