Ahsmon: Heed IGP’s call to create superior police force

-

KUCHING: Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) personnel and staff are urged to focus on three main factors as outlined by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani to create a superior police force and to refresh their role as police personnel.

The factors are strengthening integrity among personnel; strengthening the service delivery system; and continuing the government’s efforts to maintain community well-being, said Kuching deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa.

Speaking at the district police’s monthly gathering here yesterday, he called on personnel to enhance their knowledge through trainings, seminars and courses on current issues.

“Courses are necessary to strengthen and provide input to IPD Kuching in providing professional services to the community.

“If we take digital technology for an example, the usage of smartphones by people recording the actions of policemen in an unpleasant situation could erode the people’s confidence in the force.

“Take for an example of what has been viralled on social media recently; a policeman talking on a handphone while driving a police car. A road user recorded his action and viralled the video.

“However, action has been taken on the personnel involved,” he said.

Merbin was representing Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah at the monthly assembly.

On the strengthening of police service delivery system, Merbin said interaction between policemen and the community could happen anywhere – at police information counters, roadblocks, traffic counters and other police operations.

“The service delivery system must be applied at all times. It exists when there is communication between the police and the people.”

The third factor – continuing the government’s efforts in maintaining community well being – involves police personnel helping the government such as by helping break the Covid-19 chain.

“They must not be complacent and must understand that Covid19 is still around. Even though we in the transition to the endemic stage, we must be alert at all times and carry out our given tasks,” Merbin said.
