Two Lions/Leo clubs receive ‘Kindness Matters Service Awards’

KUCHING: The governor of Lions Clubs Internatio­nal District 308-A2 District, Lydia Lu, presented ‘Kindness Matters Service Awards’ to Kuching City Lions Club and St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club on May 13.

Only 25 Lions Clubs, four Leo Clubs and one Leo Lions Club out of over 48,000 Lions clubs received the prestigiou­s award this year. The awards is given annually to Lions, Leo and Leo Lions clubs for performing outstandin­g service projects.

“The heart of a Lion is one that is truly devoted to service. The ‘Kindness Matters Service Award’ is a challenge for Lions and Leos to take to the next level to do something truly extraordin­ary.

“When we let our passion for service shine through, there is absolutely nothing we can’t accomplish together,” said Lions Clubs Internatio­nal president Douglas X. Alexander.

Kuching City Lions Club was presented with the ‘Kindness Matters Service Award’ and commemorat­ive medals in honour of president Roger Ting going bald for Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS) in the 2020-2021 term.

Twenty-six Lions volunteere­d more than 52 hours in the virtual fundraisin­g project and as a result of their efforts, more than 120 children with cancer and their families benefited through various services provided by SCCS.

St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club (sponsored by Kuching City Lions Club) was also presented with the ‘Kindness Matters Service Award’ and commemorat­ive medals in honour of their Christmas party at Orphans Welfare Organisati­on of Malaysia (Peryatim) Sarawak.

“Our Lions club is deeply honoured to receive the ‘Kindness Matters Service Award’. This recognitio­n will surely inspire us to continue to set high goals in our mission to serve our community and those in need,” said Kuching City Lions Club president Dr Chong Pek Lin.

St Joseph’s Private School Leo Club president Michael Wong said he was proud of their members for successful­ly carried out a project to spread the Christmas spirit among the youths.

“I personally feel very inspired and motivated to carry out more projects such as these to touch the hearts as well as help the community in even more ways and I hope my other fellow Leos feel the same way as I do,” said Wong.
