- James Ling

KAPIT: The newly-established Seventh Division Musicians Association Kapit (7DMAK) is set to become a viable umbrella body for local performers to showcase and promote their talents.

The launch of the association coincided with the opening of Kapit Gawai Bazaar 2022 at the Town Square here last weekend, where political secretary to Premier of Sarawak Tapa Ata officiated at the ceremony.

In his speech, Tapa, who represented Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Laws) Jefferson Jamit Unyat at the event, congratulated 7DMAK not only for its establishment, but also for it having registered 82 members in a very short time.

“I have high expectations for 7DMAK. I hope that going forward, the association would organise and hold many activities involving its members, so as togive them the opportunity to showcase their talents.

“Music is borderless – it is enjoyed by people of all ages and gender, and it is a healthy recreation.

“In this regard, I encourage the local people, especially the youths, to join 7DMAK,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, 7DMAK chairman Richard Juntan said the introduction of the association was intentionally held at the same time as the opening of the Gawai Bazaar as a way to make people knows its presence.

Following the ceremony, the association hosted a concert featuring its members.

“I would like to put on record our sincere thanks to the local YBs (elected people’s representatives), who have helped us purchase the musical instruments.

“In this respect, we hope that the YBs would continue supporting us,” said Richard.
