RM8.17 million approved for NCR land surveys this year, says Len Talif
KUCHING: The federal government has approved an allocation of RM8.17 million for the purpose of land surveys under the Native Customary Rights (NCR) New Initiative programme in 2022, said Datu Len Talif Salleh.
“Out of that amount, a total of RM5.29 million has been channeled to the Land and Survey Department for the implementation of the programme in the first half of this year,” the Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment said when replying to Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin during the question-andanswer session at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
Rolland had asked whether the government plans to continue with perimeter surveys under Section 6 and Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code Ordinance in the Meluan constituency this year.
Len Talif said 13 areas covering 117,194 ha or 289,586 acres have been approved for NCR land perimeter surveys.
“Of the total, 10 areas with a total of 107,303 ha or 265,145 acres have been surveyed.
“One area of 524 ha or 1,295 acres will be surveyed in the near future, and two more areas of 9,367 ha or 23,146 acres have not been surveyed due to disputes on the ground,” he said.
Len Talif also said nine areas of 56,726 ha or 140,170 acres have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the Land Code.
He said of the total, two areas covering 22,087 ha or 54,577 acres were approved to be surveyed as individual lots.
“One area has been surveyed, resulting in a total of 825 lots with an area of 1,450 ha or 3,583 acres.
“Another area of 20,637 ha or 50,994 acres will be surveyed, subject to the readiness of land claimants on the ground,” he added.
As for valid Bumiputera customary rights land areas that have not applied for survey, he said claimants are advised to submit written applications to the Sarikei Division Land and Survey Department.
