MIRI: Loud cheers rang out at Miri Airport around 7.50pm on Tuesday when SEA Games body building silver medalist Azri Azmat Sefri arrived from Hanoi, Vietnam.

Deputy Miri mayor Julaihi Mohamad and Miri Division Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association former president Abdul Aziz Sepin joined family members and friends to welcome Azri home.

Azri told The Borneo Post yesterday that he was overwhelmed with the warm reception.

Hailing from Kampung Pengkalan Lutong here, the 29-yearold muscleman finished second in the below 55kg category in Hanoi.

“I’ve never expected to win any medal for the country during the competition because most of the athletes competing in the category were more experienced and senior in the field,” he said. Azri, who works for Sarawak Sport

Corporation in Miri, was making his debut at the SEA Games.

“All this while, I’ve been competing in local bodybuilding competitions such as Mr Miri, Mr Sarawak and Mr Malaysia.

“This SEA Games was my first (international) competition and

it has served as the best exposure for me,” he added.

He took the opportunity to thank his family, Gym Miak Besi Miri members, friends, Firdaus Morshidi and others for giving him support and financial sponsorship for him to defray

his personal expenses during the competition.

He is now aiming for more success in international competition.

“I’m now continue giving my focus for Mr Asia which will be held this July at Maldives. I

will be competing in the similar category which is below 55kg category,” Azri revealed.

The bodybuilder has been involved in the sport since 2013 and first lifted the Mr Malaysia title for the light flyweight category in 2016.
