Former national coach conducts softball programme at SMK Green Road
KUCHING: SMK Green Road are honoured and proud that former national softball coach Mohammad Rosli Abu Bakar has once again shared his knowledge and experience with the school’s softball club, six years after his first visit.
Teacher in charge of softball and advisor to the school’s softball club Juraimie Junaidi said Rosli, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, conducted a one-day programme for 18 players and five teacher-coaches at the school hall and field on Wednesday.
“Rosli was so impressed with our efforts to develop softball among the students and hoped to see our students representing Sarawak in the MSSM Softball Championships in Negeri Sembilan.
“He said most of the softball communities in Semenanjung Malaysia had heard about the Hornets and are looking forward to one day share their knowledge and experience,” Juraimie told The Borneo Post yesterday.
“For me, it is more for a long term opportunities not only for my students but also for Sarawak’s softballers.
“Usually after the SPM, the students will leave school and stop playing the game because they are a few softball clubs in Sarawak.
“By having collaboration with our counterparts in the Semenanjung, it allows our softballers to play at a higher level as there are softball clubs in polytechnics and universities over there,” he said.
According to Juraimie, the day’s programme included a session with the school principal Dr Nazamuddin Alias and senior assistant (co-curriculum) Nafri Razali and a session (theoretical
and practical) with the students and teachers involved in softball.
During the programme, Rosli emphasised on the batting techniques which was one of the weaknesses that the Hornets were facing.
“We have five players selected to represent the Kuching Division at the state level tournament in Miri so this is a very good opportunity for them to learn how to bat better and put it to practice in the coming competition.
“The players are Muhammad Harith Mohd Isa, Muhammad Arif Aiman Azman, Mohamad Shazri Hakimi Shuib, Muhammad Rafi’uddin Azizan, and Mohamad Athir Iqbal Radzy,” he said.
