KUCHING: The SME Association of Sarawak held its Extra Ordinary Meeting (EGM) 2022 on July9, electing new council members for 2022-2025 for a three-year term.

Jordan Ong Chung Siang was elected as the president by members from Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Sibu and Miri.

Ong, who was the former Secretary General of the association won the presidency after collecting the majority votes.

SME Sarawak has been the voice of the Sarawakian micro, small and medium enterprises sector since 2019 representing members from across the state.

The elected president expressed his appreciation to the members of the Association for their support and assure that he will lead the Association to a greater height with integrity and commitment.

Ong said that SME Sarawak has always played an important role on behalf of entrepreneurs in Sarawak, engaging various ministries and regulatory bodies as well as fellow industry players; from information technology, health care, food and beverage, construction, manufacturing, consumer services and retailing.

“This is to ensure that the channels of communication and cooperation are always active in the pursuit for a conducive ecosystem for SMEs to thrive and drive our economy.

“This is something we hope to build on in the new term as the past couple of years has restricted greater working relations somewhat,” Ong added in a statement.

He said that SME Sarawak will also be reaching out to other trade associations, and seeking opportunities to work together on initiatives that can benefit the industry, especially the SME sector, which will be critical to the growth of our economy.

The EGM were also graced by its sdvisor Datuk Raymond V Jolly whom is also the chairman of the election committee.
