KUALA LUMPUR: A visit to the federal capital will not be complete without exploring Malaysia’s unique historical heritage and knowing more about its statesmen.

A visit to the Memorial Negarawan, Tun Hussein Onn Memorial, Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial and and the ‘Bangunan Residensi,’ which is the official residence of the first Prime minister, at Kompleks Arkib Perdana Menteri and Arkib Negarawan (KAPMAN), in Jalan Dato Onn here is apt.

Entrance to all the places is free.

The museums spotlight the achievements of the country’s statesmen with documents, photos, apparel and more.

National Archives of Malaysia (ANM) directorgeneral Jaafar Sidek Abdul Rahman said plans are afoot to make KAPMAN a ‘must visit’ destination for tourists arriving in the federal capital by offering the opportunity to learn more about the country’s history.

Towards this end, he said, ANM would work with the ‘KL Hop On Hop Off City Tour’ bus service to include KAPMAN in the national tourism package as a must-visit destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

“This collaboration will help increase the number of visitors from the country and abroad to KAPMAN with the availability of the bus service,” he told Bernama..

He said ANM would also collaborate with the Education Resources and Technology Division (BSTP) of the Ministry of Education by having the Virtual Gallery of the Exploration of Statesmen in the ministry’s Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa KPM).

He said a total of 7,795 virtual visitors had visited the Virtual Gallery on the Statesmen’s Exploration since it was launched on Nov 10, 2021.

On the Memorial Negarawan or the Statesmen Memorial, Jaafar Sidek said the threestorey memorial is dedicated to seven statesmen who played significant roles in achieving the country’s independence.

They areTun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun VT Sambanthan, Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun, Tun Mohd Fuad Stephens, Tun Temenggung Jugah anak Barieng and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu.

He said the Negarawan Memorial which was opened in September 2017 occupied a building which was formerly the Prime Minister’s Department Complex and it exhibited memorabilia collection of the seven statesmen which were contributed by their family members, close friends and related foundations.
