RM22,600 worth of prizes await winners of Kuala Baram cycling race

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC), in collaborat­ion with Masterpiec­e Cycling Club, will organise the Kuala Baram Race 2022 (KBR2022) on Oct 16.

The event is a pioneer cycling race under MCC Tourism Developmen­t Standing Committee to promote Miri as a new destinatio­n for cycling race events in the country.

“The race is also aimed at enhancing sport tourism in Miri,” said deputy Miri mayor Julaihi Mohamad at the launching of KBR2022 at Miri City Hall yesterday.

Also present were chairperso­n for the Tourism Developmen­t Standing Committee Councillor Warziedea Ahmad and members of Masterpiec­e Cycling Club.

According to Julaihi, the cycling race will also promote healthy lifestyle and green environmen­t.

Registrati­on is now open and limited to 400 participan­ts only.

“It is open to local, national and internatio­nal participan­ts with the minimum target of 1,000 audience,” he added.

The race is divided into eight categories, namely Men Elite, Men Master A (30-39 years old), Men Junior (17 years old and below), Men Master B (40-49 years old), Men Veteran (50 years old and above), Women Open, Men Super XL (BMI 35 and above) and Folding Bike.

Top Sprint Special Awards are also up for grabs in Men Elite and Men Master A.

The race will start from Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram (in front of Miri Crocodile Farm), towards Jalan Marigold Traffic Light and back to Jalan-Lutong Kuala Baram.

The race distance for Men Elite and Men Master A is about 100km while Men Junior, Men Veteran and Men Master B is about 75km.

For the Women Open, Men Super XL and Folding Bike categories, the distance is about 50km.

A total of RM22,600 worth of prizes, including cash and trophies, will be given out to the winners.

The participat­ion fee is RM100 per person which is not refundable.

The participan­ts will receive KBR2022 Race Kit on registrati­on day.
