KUCHING: The Kuching Division Lawn Tennis Association (KDLTA) is organising the Kuching Inter-Club Tennis Tournament at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Tennis Centre from Aug 19 to 21.

Organising chairman and KDLTA president Dato Patrick Liew Chin Joon told thesundaypost that they are expecting between five to seven clubs or associations to join the annual event

The closing date has been extended to Aug 18.

So far five teams namely SLTA, KDLTA, PTBS, KGS and TF Rinduk have confirmed their participation. Organisers are awaiting confirmation from Maksak and Sarawak Club.

Each team shall have a minimum of 10 and maximum of 12 players. Each tie will comprise five matches with two singles matches (Open), one singles for Age 40 and Above, one singles for Age 50 and Above as well as one mixed doubles or Open.

The tournament aims to foster closer ties between members of various clubs and associations, provide an opportunity for players to play more competitive games and attract newcomers to the sport.

“This is a good tournament because we can get the young and senior players to mix around with each other as each tie will be played by players for different ages and giving our Sukma players the much needed match exposure.

“More importantly, we want to keep tennis as an active sport that will be continuously played by players of various ages. Apart from organising international events every year, we also strive to organise a lot of local tournaments to keep the sport “alive” and the officials and players busy whole year around,” Liew explained.
